Winter Break Schedule

Before I lay out the schedule, I'll take one more chance here to point how well you are all doing and how hard you all working so far!  I have been impressed on most days!  That said, we are just at the start, and anyone who's run a race before knows that a great start is simply a great start ... meaning that you have to put together a great middle and a great finish to feel good at the end.  Hence, we need to keep moving forward - because even if you're on the right track you'll get run over if you just sit there ... right?!

Fri 12/21 (1/2 day) - 12:30-2:30 pm
Sat 12/22 - 8:00-10:00 am
Sun 12/23 - off
Mon 12/24 - off
Tue 12/25 - off
Wed 12/26 - 8:00-10:00 am
Thu 12/27 - 8:00-10:00 am

Sat 12/29 - 8:00-10:00 am

South Jersey Meets Postponed

In disappointing, but not surprising news, the Bubble over in Toms River has not yet been repaired.  As a result, all Winter Track meets that were scheduled in December have been postponed.  For us, that means our two South Jersey meets - 12/19 and 12/27.

To me, postponed means that they will be re-scheduled, but I would guess that is up in the air, depending on whether or not or when the Bubble is fixed.  No new dates have been announced.  There does seem to be a sense that the Bubble will be fixed, but no certainty on when.

No word yet on any meets beyond December.  I will share more here as I learn more.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

A meeting is scheduled for both the GIRLS and BOYS Winter Track teams.

UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.

Love that quote - love that idea!

And today things are already better - we have doubled the turnout from last season's winter track team! I believe this increase in numbers is largely related to the relationships and bonds that many of our young runners developed last year and from the excitement growing out of the middle school.

What's more, we have some very qualified and experienced upperclassmen to help guide the way this year - I think we are making progress already!

Very excited for the new season - good luck finishing off all of your fall endeavors!

WINTER TRACK MEETING!!!

Our first organizational meeting for Winter Track will be held on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19.  The meeting will be held from 2:35-2:50 after school in Room 230.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!!!

OLYMPIC TRIALS!!!

I'm not sure if you all are aware, but the Track and Field Olympic Trials are on-going right now.  Held in Oregon, the US basically has a whole track meet and the top 3 athletes in each event make it to the Olympic team and compete in London later this summer.

The Trials started on June 21.  Some of the highlights so far include Ajee Wilson (yes the one from Neptune!!) qualifying into the semi-finals of the 800 and Ashton Eaton setting a new world record in the decathlon.  Drama unfolded in the women's 100m final when the third and fourth place women tied!  In a photo finish, where the photo was inconclusive and the time was tied down to the millionth of a second, who would get to be on the Olympic team?  Decision:  a run-off, to be held later in the trials.  Heartbreak for Brian Clay - the Gold Medalist from 2008 in the decathlon clipped the 9th hurdle and despite great performances in 9 other events, failed to make the US team!

Here is some additional information about the schedule of events and TV times, etc.

Summer Camps

The biggest room in the house is the room for improvement.  With that thought in mind, it's time to start thinking about how we can improve between this year and next year.  Will it be through new goals, better diet, more injury prevention exercises, or harder workouts???  Or all of the above, plus other stuff ... like going to a track and field camp or clinic.

Here is information regarding some of the premier summer track and field camps and clinics:

Mark Mirabelli's throwing clinic

Vertical Adventures track and field camp

HIgh Intensity Track and Field overnight camp

Girls Beat Wall, Finish Season 3-2

Wow!  What an exciting meet today!!!  You girls should be so proud of your effort and the results - Wall gave you everything they had and you fought right back and pulled it out!  What a tremendous, total team effort!

Not only should you be proud of today's effort, but for the whole regular season; we finished with a winning record at 3 wins against 2 losses.  As I said yesterday, what's more impressive is that every team we face has a larger student population than us and therefore has more girls to pick from for their team, a definite advantage.  You've done so well so far!

We now move on toward our Championship Season!  For some of our top performers this will be a chance to prove yourself as an Ocean County Champion, Shore Conference Champion, Sectional Champion, and maybe even State Champion!!  For everyone, this means we are coming into the last few meets - usually just one per week from here on out - and our last chances to get after our season's best performance.  The next few weeks are when you should really be taking aim at your goals and getting the most focused!

Let's keep a good thing going!!!

Good Performance @ Ocean County Relays

Today was another good day for Point Boro Girls Track!  I'll just quickly cover some of the highlights:

1.  Jamie, Jill, Theresa, Amy, and Sam all finished new events for the first time ever!

2.  Dana (400 and Shot), Amy (800 and 400), Ember (Shot), Jamie (400), and Dakota (200) all turned in season's best performances, and some all-time personal records!

3.  Everyone pulled together to help make sure that we covered events, and supported each other following both the outstanding performances and the disappointing performances.

Whether you did your best today or your worst today ... Keep Moving Forward!  The season is still young; plenty of time remains to improve on our good start to the season!
